In October 2012 CSIRO welcomed four postgraduate climate scientist candidates from Vietnam to Melbourne, for training on regional climate modelling.

Working with climate modeller Dr Jack Katzfey and his team, the students – Nguyen Quang Trung and Trinh Tuan Long from HUS and Vu Van Thang and Truong Ba Kien from IMHEN – learnt how to run and analyse projections developed by the Conformal Cubic Atmospheric Model (CCAM).

Developed by CSIRO, CCAM is a model which can improve the resolution of global climate models from 100-200km to a regional level of 10km. The two months of training has strengthen the students’ understanding of CCAM, developing their skills in applying, running and analysing results from the regional climate model.
